SLABBING DIAMOND CUT OFF BLADES segmented diamond cutting blades are manufactured with diamond impregnated segments soldered or welded around the periphery of a steel core. the steel core is slotted and one segment is placed on the the land between each pair of slots. the distance between slots and the slot width may be varies according to the material to be cut why slots? slots are placed around the rim of a steel core in order to permit coolant and circulation and chip clearance in the cut. this provides for an improved washing action of kerf, reducing abrasive action of the slurry which is otherwise confined to the cutting edge area. of even greater importance is the reduction of heat because a larger percentage of the coolant is carried to the point of contact. excess heat will shorten blade life and may cause permanent damage to the steel core or to the bonding of the segments. as blade diameter and cutting depth increase, the advantage of segmented blades over continuous rim design is greatly increased.
