Flange diameter affects directional stability of the diamond wheel. For ultra thin Diamond Wheels, your flange size must be 3/4 outside diameter  of the blade. Often extending right up to the diamond section. For larger and thicker wheels 1/3 outside diameter of the blade. As a general rule of thumb, the largest possible flange diameter should always to be used. Wheel stiffeners can be produced of any Outside (OD) and Inside Diameters (ID) to meet your specific requirements.
